From Workshop to Racetrack: How School-Based Apprentice Brock Glasscock Is Accelerating Toward His Dream Career

Seventeen-year-old Brock Glasscock doesn’t just like cars — he lives and breathes them. As a school-based apprentice placed through NextGen Jobs with Waverley BMW, Brock has found himself in an environment that perfectly matches his passion for all things automotive.

From the moment he stepped into the workshop, it was clear Brock had found his place. Whether it's shadowing experienced technicians, learning the inner workings of BMW vehicles, or proudly chatting about his day with family on the way home, Brock is soaking up every opportunity with enthusiasm and maturity beyond his years.

But it’s not just what's happening on the job that makes Brock’s story worth sharing.

Since starting his apprenticeship, Brock has been diligently saving his wages — every single pay since December — with one goal in mind: to purchase his own Go Kart. That goal recently became a reality. Now fully licensed and armed with his own kart, Brock is taking his motorsport ambitions to the next level, practising at the Le Mans Karting track where he’s been part of the junior academy for the past year.

When he’s not in the workshop or on the track, he’s watching F1, following Supercars, or dreaming up what comes next. His plan? To transition into the BMW #NextTech apprenticeship program later this year — a pathway designed to develop high-level automotive technicians for the BMW network.

“Brock is exactly the kind of young person we love supporting,” says Mark from NextGen Jobs. “He’s got drive, focus, and an infectious passion for the industry. With support from Waverley BMW and the right apprenticeship structure, he’s on a brilliant trajectory.”

This story is more than just about Brock — it’s a testament to the power of school-based apprenticeships. When young people are given early access to hands-on experience, employer mentorship, and the right training framework, careers don’t just begin — they take off.
